Don’t Cheat Uncle G

Google 30 April 2008 | 12 Comments

I visited John Chow today and notice that he has updated his readers about his blog’s PR changing. I’m sure all of you can feel the ‘changing atmosphere’ right now. I read a lot of debates on DP about this time update, most of them are disappointed with the results. Some of them didn’t believe that their blog is in PR4 without any backlinks.

Google Knows Everything!

That’s stories are from other members on DP. At my side, I got a tough lesson from Google today, one of my blogs (which contribute more than $100 per month) went to PR0 from PR3 as a result of PPP (Pay Per Post). I noticed not all PPP blogs got penalized by Google, some of them have even increased their PR. My blog is on the unlucky side. Phew~

My blog income will be totally different after this update. Did Google check the website one by one (which is impossible) or did they completely change their algorithms? No one knows exactly what Google is doing.

As for this blog, no changes in PR at this moment. Most of the forumers at DP have agreed that PR update has almost finish and that means no changes will be made after this.

Many didn’t believe that the PR is real, because believe it or not, Google has been too generous in this first update in 2008. Many members of DP admitted that they didn’t do anything to improve their PR but they still get higher PR. Some of them even argued that PR is now just a number, not important anymore. What’s most important according to them is the SERP.

I have quite a mix feelings about PR. For me, it’s important for link seller, because the higher the PR, the more money they’ll get from link buyers. On the other hand, if you are targeting traffic from search engine, to be honest, PR is not a very important factor. What’s matter the most is the quality of your backlinks.

I’ve experimented this on my other blogs (Malay language blog), one of them manage to land on the first page of Google search result together with other blogs which is high in PR.

I am disappointed with the latest PR update, but there will be a second update later this year, so I have to start building back my other blogs that have tremendously lost their PR and also building this blog’s backlinks.

So, how’s your blog? Has Google been to generous to you?

My Page Rank increased from 3 to 4. Even my Hire-Khai (a subpage) increased from 2 to 3. So I would say, yes, Google is being generous to me because I play by their rules.

Khai, congrats! Do you selling links or running pay-per-post advertisements on your blog?

    uncle g saks…

  5. Khai says:

No I don’t really sell links or do PPP – better to get links from other people’s blogs or buy backlinks from SEO guys.

If you build enough backlinks from authority sites like E-zine articles, squidoo, hubpages and others, you can expect a page rank hike. Hopefully by the next PR update, I’ll be at PR5 ;)

lori, they do for this update :P

  7. Norhafidz says:

Khai, yea, that’s the proper and exact way of doing it.

I had been stucked at PR3 about more than a year, so once my pr been kicked off from PR3 to PR0 i don’t care much on it. Keep visitors increase per day and make more money on ppp. I’m sure it will give an impact on ppp opportunity but let be generous to ourself, fight for your blog.

  10. My Page Rank increased from 2 to 4 so I am quite happy with it for the moment.

Original unranked, then Page Rank 0, after the next update, from 0 to 2, then stucked with 2 for some time.

    Then this update came.

  11. Norhafidz says:

@adib: you said it right :)

@catzer: yea, PR will only be beneficial to PPP

    @Deimos Tel`Arin: I see your blog’s Rank increased now, congrats :)
