Don’t Make Google Looks Stupid

Google 26 October 2008 | 16 Comments

I stumbled on Aaron Wall’s blog today and guess what? I found an interesting video of Shoemoney’s talking about paid links and why you should not make Google looks stupid. I did this once (not with this blog) and I already paid the price. If Google is the only source of your traffics, don’t ever make them look stupid :)

Enjoy the video!

Have you ever make them look stupid?

To tell you the truth, after watching the video I’m even more confused than I was before. Basically, he seems to say that Google isn’t all about algorithms at all, but can be pretty petty in deciding who to eliminate and who not to bother. Freaky stuff if you ask me.

  2. TeRaBai says:

that is weird. i agree what mitch said about the algorithms thingy. Basically he is saying that if you are not an authority sites you’ll pay for paid link, review, etc.

But if not, you are still there in the search engine. weird weird

  3. Tertius says:

    Has this already been fixed?

John Chow is ranking for me. But he makes a lot of sense, but this goes very deep into the industry, you have to be big to have this kind of an impact or backlash from ‘the google’.

Obviously I made the mistake… I’m not really in the know about this. I did read about it a while back last year. But I don’t know if anything has happened since then?

@Mitch & @Terabai: Yes that’s true, they can do whatever they want, that’s the whole point of the video. You make google looks stupid, you’ll pay the price. John Chow is one great example of it.

@Tertius: John Chow is not even rank for “John Chow” phrase. Google is not raising his website since he made “Google looks stupid” thing. :)

I’m not really care about that. But i should know. Paid links and google. Its something we cannot leave easily. :)

John Chow story is the one, that shows that Google is really stumbling around the internet and doing manual monitoring of things. Of course they also don’t like to be stupid =)

  11. Great video. I hadn’t seen that one yet. So, true though. It’s a game, and if you want to win, you have to learn to play it by their rules.

  12. haha, google stupid?
if google is stupid, how about me. i can’t imagine :D

  13. Norhafidz says:

@appleblogger: yes, true indeed. If you love traffic from Google, just don’t overdo it.

@tivitune: I might agree on that statement when Google is already not a king anymore.

@webkinz: Sometimes they do, Chow’s case is the one great example.

@ben: yea, Google can be freaky sometimes.

@dstudiobali: soo much expensive. Just don’t do it if you love Google.

@how to make money: soo true. Always play by their rule.

@gladioolers: Google’s not stupid, it’s us who make them look stupid and we the price.

  14. This sure was interesting. I really wonder how well Google keeps spam out. There is so much crap on the web it is a daunting task to keep up with all the spam.

I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes. It’s quite a big responsibility. “Do the ends justify the means?” is a great question. Don’t make Google look stupid. Great advice for any web marketers.

  15. Norhafidz says:

@Manzanillo information: They sure have a great bunch of people in their spam team, Matt Cutts is one of them and he’s well known among webmasters.

Yea, I think it is kinda huge responsibilities to be part of the team.
